About
Backgammon Vancouver
In 2001 Mark Cohen organized a backgammon club to offer weekly tournaments: Backgammon Vancouver. With Mark’s effort the first Backgammon Vancouver tournament was held at the Vancouver Bridge Centre in November 2001. Weekly Wednesday night tournaments continued for just over two years before their last tournament in December 2003.
The Vancouver Backgammon Club
The Vancouver Backgammon Club was started by Pat MacNeil in January 2007 with Carol McGannon. Together they hosted tournaments, social nights, and other events that connected Vancouver’s backgammon community. Between mid-2009 – mid-2011 the club was dormant. After June 2013’s successful Summer Classic, Pat stepped down from his role as club president and Matthew Gruman took over.
Today
The Vancouver Backgammon Club still gets together every week to play tournaments, with chouettes and other games happening afterwards and during the week.
Robert Chow and Eric Meyer are the club’s Tournament Directors; they are largely responsible for ensuring the club’s existence. Robert handles correspondence from the website and Eric updates the site with weekly results and yearly point allocations. A special thank you to Yves Balit for his contribution to the club, and the many regulars who have supported and played for years.
